Lapham-Patterson House State Historic Site

Located in Thomasville, GA just 53 miles away, this late Victorian architectural gem was built between 1885-1885 to be the winter home of Chicago shoe merchant C. W. Lapham, who moved to Thomasville for his health. The home, a National Historic Landmark, features fish scale shingles, oriental style porch decorations, inlaid pine floors, and a magnificent cantilevered balcony. But the structure is most memorable for its unusual construction: no right angles. Guided tours are available but it is wise to call first because the home is privately owned. It is situated in the Dawson Street historic Area at 616 N. Dawson Street. Phone 229-225-4004.
