Lapham-Patterson House State Historic Site
Located in Thomasville, GA just 53 miles away, this late Victorian
architectural gem was built between 1885-1885 to be the winter home
of Chicago shoe merchant C. W. Lapham, who moved to Thomasville for
his health. The home, a National Historic Landmark, features fish scale
shingles, oriental style porch decorations, inlaid pine floors, and
a magnificent cantilevered balcony. But the structure is most
memorable for its unusual construction: no right angles. Guided
tours are available but it is wise to call first because the home
is privately owned. It is situated in the Dawson Street historic
Area at 616 N. Dawson Street. Phone 229-225-4004.
Quitman, Georgia
Quitman dates to before the Civil War. The historic district features

of the Suwannee River. The historic district includes several streets,
River, First, Suwannee, and Hewitt that showcase Colonial Revival,
Queen Anne, and late Gothic Revival styles.
Madison, Florida
Madison was originally settled in 1832 as a cotton center and served
as a Confederate stronghold during the Civil War. The Oak Ridge Cemetery
is a pioneer burial ground, and remarkable homes include the W. H. Dial
House, the Fist Baptist Church, and the Wardlaw-Smith House.

boasts more than 300 buildings in several historic districts, including

outside of Atlanta.
